August 2024 Newsletter

Welcome back to my newsletter since being elected as your member of parliament!

Firstly, can I say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me and wished me well since my election as your member of parliament. I am excited to continue working with communities across Mid and South Pembrokeshire and having the privilege of being your voice in parliament. I will do everything I can to bring about lasting positive change to our area.

Since I was elected, it’s been a complete whirlwind in setting up my constituency office and employing staff. I apologise if it has taken me a little longer than usual to get back to you, I would like to thank you all for your patience whilst I bring together the remainder of my new team. I have two posts left to fill in my constituency office, and if you or someone you know may be interested please do have a look at the following job adverts: Constituency Assistant https://www.w4mpjobs.org/JobDetails.aspx?jobid=94053 and Constituency Support Manager: https://www.w4mpjobs.org/JobDetails.aspx?jobid=94008

In parliament

In parliament, it’s been a busy time with the new Labour government hitting the ground running straight away with a packed parliamentary agenda. I have been working hard to put Pembrokeshire back on the map and at the heart of government policy.

For communities across the county, Floating Off-Shore Wind (FLOW) remains a huge economic opportunity for our county. To do this, we have to have a fair and just transition to renewables that also supports the local supply chain through investment, skills and infrastructure. I have been working with stakeholders such as Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum, the Port of Milford Haven and the Crown Estate to name a few. I have raised the issue twice in the House of Commons and the Minister Michael Shanks MP referenced how I kept collaring him in the library!

In the constituency

By far the best part of the job is getting out and about and meeting with local people working hard for our community. Since the election, I’ve met with the National Farmers Union, Pembroke Dock Boxing Club, PLANED, Pembrokeshire County Council, Great Western Rail and Pembroke Dock Town Council, to name just a few. Pembrokeshire has a lot to offer whether that’s in terms of our fantastic businesses or the people that make our county great. I have been campaigning to ensure that our county is better connected and I have been pleased to see some progress with GWR around getting a direct train from Pembrokeshire to London Paddington from next year. There is a lot of work to do in our county and I’m pleased to be working with communities to make it happen.

Next month

September is set to be a busy month, as parliament returns from the summer recess on September 5th. When I return to Westminster, I plan on raising with ministers the need for more investment in Pembrokeshire and the untapped potential we have when it comes to our skills, economic fortunes, and prosperity. This month will also see MPs placed on select committees and All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPG’s) which enable MP’s to scrutinise and raise important issues. I will keep constituents abreast with all my parliamentary activity across my social media channels.

Lastly, if you are a constituent, please do contact me on henry.tufnell.mp@parliament.uk and my team and I would be delighted to help.

Yours,

Henry Tufnell MP

Member of Parliament for Mid and South Pembrokeshire
